Handbells Mailing List

Note from David Thomas: (25 April 2002)
The web server (ringem.org) is just not getting running yet and this Handbell-L resource is lost to new subscribers unless you have the following information. You can "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" to the mailing list using only your email application. It is simple to do and I highly recommend to "give it a try". If you find the messages are not to your satisfaction, you can easily send in the "unsubscribe" message.

Remember:
There are two address to use.
  1- to send a message to the list use handbell-l@ringem.org
  2- to subscribe, unsubscribe, change settings, use listproc@ringem.org

See instructions in the following email directive from Jason Tiller.

From: Jason Tiller
To: Multiple recipients of list
Subject: Handbell-L Usage Help

==========
To send a message to the list for subscribers to read, send to handbell-l@ringem.org

Be sure and use a meaninful subject line that relates to the contents of your note. For example, "Re: Handbell-L DIGEST 128" is not a useful subject because your note might relate to any of the 10 or so messages in the digest. Be diligent in using a subject line that includes the gist of your message in a concise way. This is considered courtesy for the other 1500 members of Handbell-L...

==========
To subscribe to Handbell-L, send a message from the e-mail address you want to subscribe with a "blank" Subject line to listproc@ringem.org and place as the "only" text in the body of the message "Subscribe Handbell-L My Name" (no quotes)

Replace the words "My Name" with your real name (not your e-mail address), like "Jason Tiller" or "Rusty Sanders". Do not include the quotes.

==========
To unsubscribe yourself from Handbell-L, send a message from your subscribed account with a "blank" Subject line to listproc@ringem.org and place as the "only" text in the body of the message "Unsubscribe Handbell-L" (no quotes).

==========
To change your mail reception mode between DIGEST (where you receive groups of Handbell-l messages clumped together in one big message) and ACK (where you receive each message individually), send a message with a "blank" Subject line to listproc@ringem.org and place as the "only" text in the body of the message "Set Handbell-L Mail Mode" (no quotes)

Replace the word "Mode" with either "Ack" or "Digest" (no quotes). Note that everyone is subscribed in Digest mode at first.

==========
To stay subscribed to Handbell-l but to stop receiving any messages, use the preceding guideline but put the word "Postpone" in the place of "Mode" (as opposed to "Ack" or "Digest"). Note that until the archives are up and running on ringem.org, I don't think there's any advantage to being in Postpone mode...

==========
To transfer your subscription from one e-mail address to another, you have to perform a two-step process.

STEP 1 - Unsubscribe from your old e-mail address. Look at the "how to unsubscribe" guideline above, being sure to send the unsubscription message from the e-mail address you want to remove.

STEP 2 - Subscribe from your new e-mail address. Look at the "how to subscribe" guideline above, being sure to send the subscription request from the new e-mail address you want to add.

==========
You will be notified of your request status (successful or unsuccessful) by a message from the list manager software. If you do not receive a message back with a few minutes or so, send a note to the listowner (temporarily Rusty, but send to Laurie at laurie@rgs.com) to see what's going on.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop me a note!
