Salem Lutheran Church Mission Statement - 1998

Salem Goals 2000

Salem Lutheran Church, West St. Paul, MN

Salem's Goals

  1. Be a congregation in which all members and visitors experience a feeling of a supportive Christian family.

  2. Offer worship that is holy, joyful, and grounded in the faith, providing effectively for the worship needs of all members.

  3. Intentionally nurture the faith of Salem's family.

  4. Continue and strengthen a mutual ministry that uses the strengths of staff and lay leaders.

  5. Be a congregation in which every member is involved in service, within the congregation or outside the congregation.

  6. Develop our ministry to the youth and families of Salem and the community.

  7. Communicate effectively with the community and with members.

  8. Develop a ministry outreach to mon-members, newcomers, and inactive Salem members.

  9. Establish our budget on the basis of mission.

  10. Be a congregation that reaches out to the world and the nation and attends to the diversity and changing needs of the neighborhood.

(NOTE: These goals have been listed with the council objectives for 1999 and 2000 on the Salem Staff Site available to you with your Username and Password.)

Salem's Goals for 2000

In 1998, the congregation voted to work on 10 goals during the next 3-4 years. We also decided that we would choose at least three goals to be priorities each year. These are goals that each committee and the Council and individual congregational members will be asked to pay attention to in a special way. We will be asked to do new things to achieve those goals; to continue efforts that are currently happening; and to expand our work in some areas.

The Church Council has set its priorities for this year. The three goals that will be our focus in 2000 are to:

  1. Intentionally nurture the faith of Salem's family
  2. Communicate effectively with the community and with members
  3. Develop a ministry outreach to non-members, newcomers, and inactive Salem members.
Each of you is invited to find a way to achieve these goals. Let a member of the Church Council know what you're thinking about. Try something new. Support the work of others in these areas. We believe that work in these areas will strengthen our congregation and enable us to better serve within the congregation and in the our community.
