Quit SORRY!
Due to "lack of interest at Salem", this web site will gradually disappear. Henceforth, there will be no "new items" added and items/pages will be deleted as they no longer seem to "serve" a purpose. I will continue to serve pages 1) where I have previous knowledge or 2) where some current knowledge/information has been supplied. SORRY! -(Web Manager)

Salem Shortcut Access for Members
Do you ever want a Salem email, telephone number, or regular mailing address at home/work when you have them stored on your (other) computer.
Do you ever wonder if there is a more "up-to-date" email, telephone number, or regular mailing address for a Salem member?
Are you a "slave" to the addressbook on your work/home computer (or maybe to the antiquated printed list somewhere in your desk --- hmmmm)
This may be for you! Give it a try! Nothing to lose!

Headlines maybe more convenient
When someone sends me an items for the web pages or makes an entry themselves (See: Enter Your Own Items), I will evaluated it and MAYBE feature it as a Headline which will be linked on many pages. I have done this for many months but I have now incorporated a more convenient "drop-down" tool on many pages which allow you to go directly to some of the newest and most highly featured items on the site. I hope you will find this a helpful addition to your browsing activities and a help in finding newer information on the site. Try the "drop-down" Headlines below.

Some New Jubilee Ringer Items
I hope the Jubilee Ringers (and other interested persons) will notice several new items in the Jubilee Ringers Area of the web site. This area start by accessing the "Welcome" message at http://slcwsp.org and clicking on the navigation links at the top of each page. You will need your Salem Username and Password to access many of the pages. These pages are not consider public pages but for members (and friends) only. Please ask for your password if you don't already have one. Passwords are not intended to make it more difficult for you but are intended to assure some security and to make it more difficult for people that like to "mess around" on the internet.

Number of pages on web site
Perhaps the Salem web site has had too many pages and is too complicated - whatever....... I have chosen to reduced the number of pages on the web site dramatically and have "blessed" the Pastor's page as the Home page (this allows the Pastor to initiate items for the web site). (http://slcwsp.org)

Main pages remaining
There are three main pages remaining: Pastor's Page, Music Page and an increasingly active Youth Director's Page. The Youth Director page can be accessed directly with a special domain name, http://slcwsp.org/yDirector.shtml. There are auxillary pages remaining but the Home page and the Main page as well as some Learning pages and Picture pages have been removed. There is also an expanded Jubilee Ringers Area of the web site which is accessed on their special invitation page at http://slcwsp.org/jubilee.shtml.

Email Addresses are protected
All email addresses have been removed from web pages. This has been done to counteract SPAMMING activity where "robots" access millions of web sites searching for email addresses to include in email lists that are sold. Any email addresses on the Salem site are in Password protected areas which are inaccessible to these mechanical "robots".

Messages to staff
If you wish to send an email message to a Salem Staff member (I suppose you could always call them on the telephone first ;-) to find out their address), you can ask for and receive your Salem Username and Password and access addresses in the Salem Addressbook or on the Staff Page. If you do not take the time and "trouble" to request a password, you can easily send a message to a Salem Staff Member on the Messages/Feedback Page using a system that does not reveal the staff members email address. You can ask the staff member to reply to you and receive their email address in that way.

18 April 2003
Try This Out!

It is located on several Salem Pages...... You can search, add, edit, delete items in the Salem ONLINE Addressbook in a convenient way without having to go to the Password Site. You will still need your username and password.

Salem Front Door - a wonderful Computer Startup page
Why not use the Salem Front Door as the Startup Page when you start your browser to make an internet search?

You can read the "Headlines" for Salem Activities immediately and keep up on Salem events on the Salem Events and Notes Bulletin Board before going on to other web activities.

Convenient Search Anywhere Tool INCLUDED
If you are intending to Search the web for some personal information, right at the bottom of the Salem Front Door Page is a Search Anywhere Tool that allows you to select many search engines without having to mess around finding them.

\ If you are like me and feel that Google is the best search engine anyway, there is a direct "Google" search tool right at the bottom of the Salem Front Door that allows you to make direct access to a "Google Search".

Can't find anything more convenient than that!! Startup with Salem and then go to the rest of the world!

Music Schedule on the Web Site
Thanks to Salem Music Coordinator, Lori French, I hope you have noticed that the current schedule of Salem Music Groups is online for your use. If it makes a difference to you, you can choose to go to the service which employ the music groups you prefer. If you are a member of a music group, you can print out a schedule or quickly review the current schedule. (Unfortunately, these are only monthly schedules so it does not help you in long range planning but I thing Lori is working on that.)

Salem Email Addresses:
These are available on the password site....

We are trying to make things easy for Salemites and to encourage Salemites to communicate using this convenient and COURTEOUS communication tool.
---------
"Email is accurate, courteous and specific!"
1- Deal with it at your own time!
2- Follow through on specific intentions!
    3- It provides a permanent easily-accessed record!

No "news" is not necessarily "good news"
Use the email system (instead of using "paper scraps" or playing "telephone-tag")!! Email works well if one uses it. It does not "intrude" into a person's life and is becoming more universal, for serious users, every day!

Please notice that Pastor Hendrickson has begun to use his web page. Look at it for timely messages from the Pastor on Pastor's Ponderings. (Sometime we'll probably just call this the Pastor's Page.

Kevin, Youth Director, also has a web site for displaying Youth Items. Youth (no matter what age) should make a regular habit of checking in on Kevin's Page. (Sometimes also called Youth Director's Page.)

There are a some other pages where items can be entered directly by the Salem Staff. They have not started to use the pages yet but you can check back at times to see if the do start to use them.

Enter Your Own Items On The Web Site (Review/Summary)
You may enter your items in the Announcements (Brief), the Announcements/Notices (Complete), the Calendar Online, the Salem Guestbook, or Mail List without any assistance. It takes a Username and Password to enter items in the Calendar but the other locations are open to anyone!

I have created special entry tools for the Congregation President, Pastor, & Youth Director so they can enter items directly also. The Jubilee Ringer have a "Talk/NOOZ" page on the password site. (Get your Username and Password to see these items.)

Mail List Manager - (Salem Addressbook)
(Get your username and password first.)

Do your wonder if there are ANY Salem people with email addresses?
Do your wonder how many email addresses there are at Salem?
Would you like to know the email address of a Salem person?
Is your email address on the Salem list? (Please enter it yourself!)
Has your email address changed recently? (Please enter an update yourself!)

You can locate, edit or enter email addresses for Salem Members and Associates using the Mail List Manager. It becomes the responsibility of EVERYONE to keep this list updated. You don't need to "Call the Office" or "Wait until the Secretary arrives at the office" or "Wait until tomorrow since you work pretty late at night", etc. Just get involved in using this handy tool and by entering updates as you know them.

Salem Calendar Online
You can use your username and password to make entries on the Salem Calendar Online.

This Calendar has been available for some time but has not been used by many. Enter your Committee Meetings, Council Meetings, Weddings, Birthdays (if you want), Special events, etc. and check the calendar regularily to see what others have entered. You might find something of interest. Refer your committee members to the Calendar Online.

Online communications can be very effective and are available for your reference any time of the day or night.

The Salem Youth Pages have been discontinued.
Peter Gudel, the web manager for the Salem Youth Pages, writes:
(Mon, 29 Apr 2002) I am very sorry about the removal of the pages! The Youth Pages were very out of date. The youth director said the youth do not really look at it, even after trying to promote it for a while. I got tired of asking for updates.
Thanks Peter for your work on behalf of Salem. Your draft pages were used by me to initiate the Salem Web Site in 1998 and you have handled the Salem Youth Pages since that time as a "labor of love" and at your own expense. Thank you!

Salem Announcement, Notices, Messages Bulletin Board

Enter your own Announcement or Message Online!
View Announcements or Messages entered by others!
Stay informed!
Add your email address to be notified when announcements are placed online!
This is instant email notification to members of your group (that have signed up)...

Keep your online group (or the whole online congregation) informed of your activities!
Enter your online Announcement, Notice , or Message here and have it distributed automatically and instantly to those signed up!

When you submit material for the Salem (Paper) Sunday Bulletin or Monthly Bulletin, why not enter it here and have IMMEDIATE distribution of your notice?

It is suggested that you encourage your group members to sign up for this valuable way to receive and send information quickly and easily!

Anyone can use it - you don't need any special talents or authority - you don't need to be the chair or a special leader (you are SPECIAL because you "Care to do this") - let people know what is going on in your group! Encourage others to "LOOK HERE" for your NOTICES! This can really work if someone just "starts the ball rolling"! There are many people in Salem with email addresses and web access!

Salem Devotionals
(This is the first new entry to the web site in MONTHS - this one was not submitted though - I had to "steal" it from the "traditional" Sunday morning bulletin - Salem is very traditional and not quick to move in new ways)
Salem member, James Shirley, as chair of the Publicity Committee has taken on the task of "sharing" some Salem Devotionals. Just click "Devotionals" on any of the web pages to get yourself "on the list" to receive these. (*You can remove your name just as easily so "don't be afraid" to join!)

Reinstalled pages
After almost a month of using the "inactive site" reference (below), there have been only three concerned people indicating "concern" about the Salem Web Pages. Using the frame of reference, "Where ever two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them!", I decided (prayerfully) to reinstall the web pages hoping there might be something good in them (for at least three people).

If you really care about these pages, some ways to should your caring may be 1) to use/view the web site repeatedly, 2)to send some entries for the web pages (there are tools all over the web pages to aid in this process), 3) to make an entry into the "Guestbook" or, 4) let someone know that you care (see the Site Inactive entry below and use that link).

There have been no contributions to the web site from Salem members in months. I decided to remove the web pages to see if there is any reaction to such. The following message was placed on all Salem web pages:

I have set up a beginning web site for each Salem Committee. Please access the following web site and select a web page to use for your committee.

http://slcwsp.org
Click on "Committees"

There is an explanation of how to submit information and a submit page for each of the nine committee pages that I have placed on the web site (more pages can be added or some of these can be deleted as we see who might want to use this electronic medium).

You may print a copy of the "How to submit information" directly from the web site for distribution to those that may need it. (It is on the web site in Browser format or Adobe Acrobat format.) I am willing to help in any way. Please contact me if you need help. Contact the Salem Web Manager

  • A web site has been set up for Salemites to "talk to one another". Share an idea/opinion/warmfuzzy/criticism with other Salemites. When we talk with each other we share with each other. Sharing means that we care! Visit the Salem Talk web site.

12 Oct 99
  • A Password Protected Web Site is now available for Salem people to use. I call the site Secure and it can be accessed from several locations on the Salem web pages (most notably from the Salem homepage).

A Secure web site can be used to display information or material that one does not want to display to the "general" public. NOTE: The Salem web site is a "public site" and information on the pages can be accessed by anyone from anywhere in the world.

Some items that would be nice to have in a "convenient" location on a web site so the items can be accessed from anyplace where one has access to a computer may contain some material/information that is best not displayed to the general public. (Known email addresses of Salem members are now included on a "password protected" page away from the prying eyes of "spammers" that are always looking for new addresses to "pester"! These addresses are very nice for using the most courteous and accurate communication system available between Salem people - if one knows a friend's email address.) That is why I have created a location for Salem web users that requires a password.

Send me a request for your username and password so you can access this web site and the information that is located there. See the Secure site opening page.

Hopefully, the church leaders will use this type of site for items such as meeting agendas and minutes, notices of special meetings, and other information that is intended for "internal use" by the Salem "Family" only!

28 August 99
  • The Salem web site has a new Domain Name. It should be easier to remember and use. The old URL's will still work so you do not need to change them but this one should be easier to talk to someone about. "Salem looooth dot ohrrrrg"!!!
    http://www.slcwsp.org
    - - Note: With the new browsers one does not even have to type in the www. part of the address - - just http://slcwsp.org will be enough

  • We lovingly remember Pastor Lisa Holt Thompson, called home by her Heavenly Father in June 99!

  • Note from the web manager: Some of the Salem Web pages have been removed from the web site due to "inactivity". We are trying to present pages that are "used" on the web site and are trying to avoid the "under construction" sites. Some of these removed pages are still linked on this page but are not available through the regular "java navi-bar links" or the "easy links" on each page. Browse down this page. You may find something of interest.

  • Attention America Online users - Give yourself a "Christmas present" and upgrade to the new AOL4. It brings the AOL platform closer to the standards of the rest of the internet and you should notice a much improved performance.

Programming NOTE: I no longer will be progamming the Salem web pages for any version of AOL below AOL4. The new upgrade is a MUST for any AOL user (not just for the Salem pages but for the rest of the internet - you will notice a tremendous improvement - JavaScript finally runs and you can use Netscape or Internet Explorer instead of the much lesser browser included with the AOL program. JUST DO IT!!! If you need help or advise on this, just email me!.

NOTE For AOL users - The email client in AOL is nice but it has a few non-standard "quirks" which may give you questions. If you click on an email link (like the one above), your email program should open up a new email message with the address already in place. If you see some things like %20 in the email address, replace the whole code, %20, with a "space" and things should be OK. Every other email client replaces this code automatically but the AOL client does not and it may cause you to think that you cannot use email on some web pages when in reality you can! TRY THE TWO FOLLOWING EXAMPLES TO SEE HOW YOUR EMAIL CLIENT WORKS!!!

sillyman@pclink.com - This is a plain email address!

sillyman@visi.com (George Nelson) - The "real name" of the person is included in the email address!

There are certain accepted "protocols" for email addresses and the above are two of them.

PERSONAL (The way I do things.): I much prefer the "real name" to be included in the email address. Some email services are able to keep the email address and the real name fairly close but some email services require some rather cryptic email addresses and it is hard to (or impossible to) tell the "real name" of the person. I much prefer to catalog and save my email address using "real names" and I use the "real name" system in most of the email links that I place. REMEMBER: REPLACE %20 WITH A SPACE!!!! THE PARENTHESIS MARKS MUST BE INCLUDED!!!

  • I am upgrading some of the Salem Web Pages with a "JavaScript" link tool. It is really convenient for those of you that can use it (AOL users- please upgrade to AOL 4 so you can use these link tools).

There is a reminder on many pages (right at the top) about the status of your browser - Are you JavaScript enabled?? Many web sites use JavaScript but I try to keep JavaScript use to a minimum because of AOL users. AOL users: - With AOL 4 you can use Netscape or Internet Explorer instead of the "lesser browser" included in your AOL program - Download Netscape or Internet Explorer and after you sign on to AOL, click Netscape or Internet Explorer for a much better browsing experence.

Try out the JavaScript link tool and let me know what you thing about it. Contact the Salem Web Manager
