Director Of Youth And Family Ministry: Position Description
- General
- This is a half time position as part of our ministry team here at Salem.
- Will possess a strong theological base, being familiar with and respectful of Lutheran theology; tend to his/her own spiritual growth; and expresses his/her theology openly in conversations, action and prayer, both one-on-one and in groups.
- Will support and utilize a relational approach to ministry.
- Possess gifts to offer, including, but not limited to: organizational and communication skills (verbal and written), ability to work independently and as a part of a team, ability to work well with youth and adults, and preferably, posses musical talents.
- Be creative, fun and enthusiastic.
- Be willing to work evenings and week-ends.
- Organize and support fellowship, education, and service-oriented gatherings and activities for the senior high youth, junior high youth and for youth in grades 4-6.
- Be responsible for weekly Bible studies and spiritual growth experiences for the senior high youth. (Inside Out)
- Plan and carry out regular fellowship activities for the youth in grades 5-8 and senior high at least once per month in the senior high, and at least quarterly for grades 5-8.
- Participate in the confirmation program, for example, coordinating the Wednesday evening activities; teaching and participating in the confirmation retreats.
- Assist in the organization and help support summer experiences for the youth: Bible Camps, Wilderness Camping, Mission Service trips, Summer Adventure, etc.
- Schedule regular office hours for youth and their families.
- Develop and maintain personal contacts with the youth of Salem Lutheran Church.
- Inform the youth and their parents/guardians of all events through the monthly newsletter, mailings, youth board, signs, posters, and phone calls.
- Work on outreach opportunities to the inactive youth.
- Recruit youth to participate in programs, activities, and events.
- Provide for the training of the youth and the youth and family ministry support team.
- Recruit volunteers to serve on youth and family ministry support team.
- Meet with the youth and family ministry support team at least once a month to assist in the planning of programs and events.
- Encourage and lead the youth and family ministry support team in spiritual growth.
- Provide for training this team in relational ministry, needs of youth today, and other skills necessary for this type of ministry.
- Encourage youth and family ministry support team members and other members of the congregation to utilize their gifts in service to youth and the congregation.
- Integrate the work of youth and family ministry support team within the current programs of the congregation and the larger community.
- Attend the staff meetings and six Congregational Council meetings annually.
- Attend and participate in the worship services of Salem.
- Encourage the involvement of youth and their families in attendance and participation in the worship services at Salem.
- Continue his/her education in relation to this type of ministry.
